My brother seems to make decisions based on short-term impacts. Regardless of the long-term impacts of avoiding the short-term pain, he seems to always choose to respond to whatever problem is closest. Is there a recognized mental illness where people almost always choose avoidance of the near term, regardless of the long term consequences?
