Hi.
So Since about June this year the heel of my right leg really hurts. For the most part I can walk sometimes without pain, sometimes with a very dull pain with each step that doesn’t really effect me. The problem is really when I step on something raised right on the heel. Say I step on a wire that’s on the floor and it hits my heel; the pain is so intense I have to stop whatever I’m doing and wait five minutes for the pain to recede
I told this to my doctor in about September, who chalked it up to pain from my muscles and tendons fusing together or something because I stopped growing recently. She even looked at it. She could see the obvious swelling near the arch, but when she tried to push on it to find the source of pain nothing happened. This only happens when it’s my full body weight. She said there was nothing she could do.
A few months later it was still bothering me so she referred me to get some x-rays done. They came back and they didn’t see anything that could be causing me pain, so they went back with what the doctor said before, and they told me to wear better shoes then my Converse All Stars.
it’s been really bugging me, and my doctors won’t do anything for me. i was wondering if anyone might know what this is?
Thank you!
An xray would only tell if there was a problem with the bone. This is a soft tissue injury of some sort. You need to wear a gel heel pad or a heel cup until it has a chance to heal. You can get them at any pharmacy.
It could be Plantar fasciitis. It’s the most common cause of heel pain. The only thing I know of that helps, is to use arch supports in your shoes. You can buy them at Wal-Mart or any drug store. But it usually takes several months before the pain goes away completely. Below is a link with more info:

You are describing one of two things that can make the muscle under your foot sore like that. One is your achilles tendon, if that shortens up as they sometimes do, it pulls on the back of your foot. It could be the muscle under your foot itself, for it also has tendons that can shorten up. I do think it’s you achilles tendon but here are the ways to release both of them:
Achilles tendon:
With that foot in your lap, take both your hands and place them on the back of the tendon about one inch apart at ankle level. Press the tendon hard between your fingers and thumbs and hold that pressure there. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After 30 seconds slowly raise the front of your foot as far as it will go. Then remove the pressure but hold your foot there for one minute longer.
for the muscle under your foot, have it on your lap. Place your thumbs side by side at the back of your arch, right in front of the heel. Press in and hold that pressure. Wait 30 seconds then slowly raise your toes up as far as you can. Then release the pressure but hold your toes like that for another 30 seconds.
Seems to me like the problem lies with the arches of your feet. Do you have an arch? If so, how much of one? Is it falling?
Hello,
From your description its very hard to tell especially after you had it checked by a Doctor, But what comes to mind could be Severs Disease which is common in teenagers, it’s basically a growing issue in the back of the heel and it goes away once the bones and tendons stop growing.
If you can answer these question I will be able to give you a better answer:
1) Do you see any redness on your heel?
2) Where exactly does it hurt in your heel?
3) Does it hurt more after you rest or sleep?
4) Is there a bump on the back of your heel?
5) Does it also hurt when you are not walking?
6) Are you active in some sports or the gym?
For now I would suggest normal treatment which involves stretching and icing at least 4 times a day.
You should also wear good supportive shoes with good arch supports.
If it still doesn’t go away after a few more days then I suggest you make an appointment with a Podiatrist.
Again, if you can answer my question regarding your pain I will be able to help you further.
You can write me directly at itaiw@yahoo.com if you prefer.
Feel better and Good luck!
I had the same thing happen to me . Unfortunately had to wear shoes with support I’m a barefoot person all year round. ( Live in Fla.). Good new is It worked try something with some what of a heel to tip the pressure more toward the toes. Was your Dr. a Podiatrist? If not see one . He gave me a shot of cortisone to relieve the pain in 3 days I was unbelievably better. Ask them for a small wedged heal thingy to put in your regular shoes. It’s made of foam & helps. Let me know how ya do> Have a Merry Christmas!
